Loss of power with little to no movement in the turbo boost gauge. Smoke from the tailpipe at startup that goes away after reaching full operating temperature. Continual smoke from the tailpipe.

Weak oil seals within the turbo allow oil to leak into the exhaust system, especially when cold. Smoke results when the oil burns in the hot exhaust, sometimes clearing up after the seals warm and the residual oil is burnt off. Failing to change engine oil at the recommended interval and improper cool-down procedure are main reasons for turbo failure. Seized bearings cause the turbo impeller shaft to lock up or break in two.

Replace the turbo assembly or center cartridge.
